I have an 2011 iMAC 27 desktop, recently a totally black screen shows up after turning it on, I can hear the chime sound, but the screen is totally black. Can anyone advise what could be the issue? And how to isolate it? Thanks,
Most likely is a GPU failure. As Dan said an external monitor may help confirm this. This is a well know issue on this model and Apple had a repair program on it for a while but it has expired. This was mainly on the model with the serial numbers ending in The last four digits of affected models must include DPM1, DPM2, DPNV, DNY0, DRVP, DY6F, F610, DHJQ, DHJW, DL8Q, DNGH, DNJ9, or DMW8 Your serial number is on the bottom of the stand. https://9to5mac.com/2013/08/16/apple-ope… Prices have remained high for the replacement GPUs as demand is high.
