I was trying to remove the batter from my iPhone 6 and of course, the adhesive strips broke. So I tried prying it off and started smelling something sweet. Low and behold, I’d just been ripping the wrap off of the battery. I freaked and stopped the removal process. It didn’t get hot or smoke or anything. Just the smell. My question is, can I continue and just rip it out then toss it, is it safe? Or should I leave it be and dispose of the entire phone? I don’t want it to blow up while I’m touching it.
Hey, it is a very low chance that it will explode and it’s bigger chance if you use metal tools to remove it. I really hope you have disconnected it from the motherboard? If you got any plastic tool that you can get under it from left side (to not damage the motherboard), I would do that, if it half lose it usually is enought just to pull the hole battery down wards but still up so it gets of from the housing
Take it to a mobile phone repair shop, they should be able to remove it without it blowing up. I’ve prayed plenty of iPhone 5s and 6 or higher batteries without issue while being careful.
