I’ve recently been donated a Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.16ghz Problem is that there are a number of keys on the right side of the keyboard that either do not work, or stick (repeat) intermittently. I have popped off several of the offending keys to see if there is some mess underneath but it appears clean. Also the trackpad seems to be a little ‘frisky’ at times - not allowing me to select drop-down lists other than the first/top of the drop-down?! Looking at options to repair this unit, I’m wondering whether the top case / keyboard of other Macbook Pro models would fit this 1121 model - thinking I might try to pick up a parts unit & simply swap out the top - doing just the keyboard looks really fiddly!! Thanks for any advice you can offer. Loop
The Core Duo (A1150) upper case wouldn’t work, because it does not accommodate the bluetooth (between A1150 and A1211, Apple moved the bluetooth from near the hard drive to the underside of the upper case). The 2 new models (A1226 and A1260) are problematic in the way the keyboard attaches. First, Apple removed the side tabs of the keyboard and remapped the screws that attach the keyboard to the upper case. Also, the upper case connector on the logic board is moved on the logic board, so they won’t work either. Sorry! Good luck with the repair!
If you have to buy a keyboard why don’t you just buy the the correct one instead of asking for problems. This keyboard should work fine: [linked product missing or disabled: IF901-092-1] Here’s the installation instructions: MacBook Pro 15" Core 2 Duo Model A1211 Upper Case Replacement While you’re waiting for parts just use an external USB keyboard. That will also tell you if the problem is just with the keyboard or you have other problems.
