@seferra this is usually caused by a backlight inverter failure. Most TV’s have the inverter circuitry on the power board. You do want to take the back off your TV and take a look at all the boards. Make sure that the ribbon cables are still all connected. Check for some obvious problems on the power board like leaking or domed capcitors. Post some images of your boards with your question. Use this guide for that. It will allow us to see what you see.
I don’t repair TVs myself, but to compare it to a Macbook Air screen there is a small strip of LEDs below the screen (which light up the screen). If there is a dark patch, it will either be related to the LED strip, or LED return resistors on the logic board, in the Macbook’s case. With your TV, the backlight is probably integrated with the LCD, so unless there is a problem with the circuitry on the board, it will be an LCD problem.
