Hi guys, I recently got the MacBook Pro with Retina Display and noticed that the hinge was rather loose. It’s not to the point where the display would move up/down when I’m typing on solid surface, but it does wobble more than my previous MacBook Pro and there isn’t as much resistance when I’m opening or closing the lid. My question for anyone, but perhaps to the person who disassembled this laptop, is how easy it is to tighten the screws on the hinge. I bought the iFixit tools necessary to open the bottom plate (except the plastic prying tool). I’m wondering if the plastic cover (that goes over the hinge) comes off easily and if no glue is required. If so, can anyone give me a little more detailed instruction than the two pictures on the teardown guide? Thank!

This is should still be under warranty START A CLAIM WITH APPLE. If you haven’t purchased Apple care you may want to rethink that. This could turn out to be a design problem similar to the MacBook Air hinges. If this answer was helpful please remember to mark it accepted.

Hey there Korbearus, First of all, machead is correct. In order to maintain the integrity of your Apple warranty, you should take the machine to a “certified” Apple care center. That being said, tightening the display hinges is very simple. Aside from the 10 pentalobe screws holding the lower case in place, there is nothing in the way except for those rubber covers. They are held on with a mild adhesive and come off easily.

Garrettn can you explain the clutch cover a bit more? I have same model and have no problem opening up the mac, just want to confirm what I should be tightening. I have the same issue.
