Hi all, I read this discussion Thick black stripe on iMac screen after attempting HDD to SSD swap and I apparently have a very similar problem.
The thing that’s different in my case is that: – The display is in perfect conditions: I’ve been very cautious in cutting the adhesive strip. – I discharged static electricity following the iFixit guide and I used antistatic gloves to protect the board. – I accidentally pulled, or stretched, the flex data cable. The connector on the logic board is ok, but the cable could be damaged. When I move a window I can see something in the black stripe, and the screenshots are OK.
and every external screen or Cintiq tablet works perfectly. So, I’d like to replace the cable with a new one, but I can’t find it, I always find only the flex cable for A1311, but I don’t think that it’s the right one. Somebody knows where to find the right cable, or if the A1311’s one could be OK? Alternatively, is it possible to repair the flex cable, maybe soldering again the contacts? Thanks! Marco
Sorry guy the display got the worse of it here ;-{ While you may have pulled the cable a bit it (and even damaged it as well) it would have given you a very different symptom. Unlike LVDS signaling iDP is more like your digital TV’s signaling. If you ever watch over the air (vs cable) you might have noticed the signal will freeze up or go into a checker board. iDP signaling is very similar to this it wouldn’t give you the steady bar. Sadly it doesn’t take much to damage the display when you cut it free. Time for a new display assembly.
I have a similiar issue too. Did you end up replacing the cable or the whole lcd unit? Please let me know. Thanks!
Same issue. Where do I go to determine which kind of display assembly I need? I messed it up, so I’m taking the imac and display into a pro to install the new part, but I don’t want to order through them. I’m on a late-2013 27” imac
I have the same problem any one know how to fix it by now or still have to replace?
