Hello - I have a GE side-by-side refrigerator. The water dispenser stopped working. It still makes ice, but nothing happens when you press the dispenser for water or ice. It doesn’t even make the humming sound. We have had problems before with the line freezing, and we have solved that with a hair dryer. However, this problem seems different because it doesn’t even make the humming sound. Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong? Thank you in advance.

Brett Watson- sounds like the water inlet valve failed. The water valve is behind the refrigerator. It’s what your home water line is connected to. Unplug unit turn off water. Remove the water line and 2 1/4” screws hold valve in place. Remember what wires go where- I take pics to be sure. If you have a multimeter you can check resistance/ continuity on each coil. If they test good then it’s either in the dispenser switch of frozen line. Access the switch by gently prying the trim around dispenser off then remove panel. Take pics. Usually it’s the valve that’s bad if your not hearing it energize. Hope this helps.
