Hi Everyone, My MacBookPro, early 2011 started to behave weird. It would not lit after going into sleep mode or blacked out unexpectedly when on battery. It landed at service and was diagnosed with moisture trace on logic and mag safe board. Yeh, right that was a small coffee spill some months ago, with no immediate negative effect. As I was offerred a repair cost exceeding the cost of new mid2012 MacBookPro I declined it. I changed the energy settings to never go to sleep but unfortunatelly it still dies out occasionally under service even if on cable. What I can see is that the system is working, as at certain illumination and angle I can see in very pale grades of gray the correct response for input - it is as screen is just not lit. No way I need to Ifix it :) I find iFixit parts cost worth giving a try. My questions therefore are:

  1. if from above description is it possible to determine which of the named parts is responsible for such behavior. What am I apparently hoping for is that it is just mag safe board responsible for the problem and I can save logic board cost? So do i need both or hopefully just mag safe? If i need the logic board the other question is:
  2. if late 2011 boards can be installed in stead of early 2011. in other words i consider upgrading the computer thank You for your help So do i need to purchase both boards and if i can use late 2011 logic board instead of original early 2011 thanks for your time, regards

Please confirm that this is your machine: Apple MacBook Pro “Core i5” 2.3 13" Early 2011 Specs Identifiers: Early 2011 13" - MC700LL/A - MacBookPro8,1 - A1278 - 2419* If so, then yes the board can be upgraded. Before buying a board I would replace the MagSafe board, I would also run AHT on the machine by starting up from your original system installation DVD and start up holding down the “D” key and test it. Also run Coconut battery on it. http://www.coconut-flavour.com/ Did the coffee enter the machine through the keyboard? How did it get on the logic board?
