I think the diaphragm (if there is one) has worn out. My iphone is 8Gb and 2 years old (bought Aug2008?) It is not practical to send back for repair and I want to do it myself. What do I need and how do I do it???? Many thanks, Andrew MacArthur

I’m guessing you have an iPhone 3G. Just to make sure though, you should use our ID-your-iPhone tool. Assuming that you do have an iPhone 3G, the parts you’ll need to do the replacement are here and you can click here to find our guide on how to do the repairs yourself. If you find out you have something other than an iPhone 3G, please let us know and we’ll try to point you in the right direction, otherwise, please come back and accept this answer. Happy fixing! :)
