I replaced the battery, and it worked fine after that repair. When I replaced the Taptic Engine, I powered it on, and the home button would not respond. It didn’t click, it didn’t go home, it’s completely dead. I’m wondering what I’ve done, or if this is a software lock. Thanks for your help.

I think you will find that you have damaged the home button flex cable. The one that goes from the screen to the motherboard. It usually gets a microscopic tear at the 90 degree bend and sometimes requires magnification to see it. You will need to purchase a replacement screen to get your home button functions back as the home button flex cable is incorporated into the screen.
