I am totally unaware of what to do. The apple store has said the machine is vintage and are refusing to fix it. I have spoken to a 3rd party apple repair specialists requesting anywhere from $439 to $1349. I do not want to but a new one. All I want is a permanent fix for the issue.

You came to the best place to get your system fixed! We’ll help you though this. First, are you up to doing this your self? Review this IFIXIT guide on what it will take to open your system and take the lid assembly off: MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Mid 2009 LCD Replacement. Here we need to get to the back side of the case (behind the LCD) as I suspect the screws which hold the mid frame have either loosened up or striped the holes. If stripped you can use some foaming urethane glue to glue the mid frame to the cover. Here’s an image of the area so you can see what I’m talking about: Inside Lid Assembly. Note the large black head screws. The other option here is to replace the complete assembly. You should be able to buy a used unit.

I wouldn’t trust repair shops that want you to spend over 1000 dollars on a machine that is bound to break down at any moment. It’s just not worth it. If you want to spend that much, I recommend getting a way better machine that is supported through software. I recommend a 2015 MacBook Pro as it still has the traditional ports
