Is it possible to use the S3 screen and digitizer to temporarily repair the S4 due to a broken screen and digitizer? I have a working S3 and a broken digitizer on my S4. I have data i wish to retrieve from the S4 but it is locked with a passcode and since the screen wont function i cannot input the code to unlock it. Therefore i thought i may be able to economise and use the S3 screen to unlock the S4 to get the data off it. I am not interested in salvaging the S4, i just want the data. Oh and it’s an i9505 on the S4.
Hi, Since your S4 still “works”(i.e. you can see the screen but the touch doesn’t work-is that right?), you should be able to connect a mouse via an OTG cable (be sure to get the right one they are available on Ebay - look for OTG for Samsung S4) and use that to move around your screen and enter the passcode. Not certain how it goes with pattern locks though. Once your phone is unlocked, quickly switch out the usb OTG cable to another pc to phone usb cable and connect it to a pc and see if the computer can see and access it. Locate the data you wish to get. As long as you can get in and start a transfer you will be ok, even if it locks the transfer will finish. You can also press the volume button to keep the screen active so you know it stays unlocked. Just keep an eye on a timer or something and remember that it usually locks (I think) after 60 seconds of no input. I hope this helps.
