As I was away, my friend accidently spilled water and apparently there were few drops of water at the back of the screen and around the back of my macbook pro retina bought in December 2014. My Macbook pro was lift up straight away from the table, the water drops cleaned and the power cable was removed. As today, I have the following issues:

  • the battery level (event happened when it was charging and was at 96%) has dropped to 95% then 94%, 93% and now 92% drops 1% each other day.
  • Bluetooth is not working
  • I cannot import files via usb
  • As soon as I remove the power cable, the mac switches off and the calendar goes back to 01/01
  • I wonder if I bring it to the genius bar and they fix it (at a cost of course since it is accidental cause), will this void the remaining warranty available (mac bought in the UK are covered against manufacturing fault for up to 6 years according to the Selling Act)? I do not know exactly when this happened. Is there a way to find out, via the files or internal system? I would like to know. I think I should be able to find out when the clock was last on and then it all went wrong (and the clock reset to 01/01).

Sadly you got your logic board wet enough to mess it up ;-{ At this point you’ll need to bring it into either an Apple Store or an Authorized Apple Service Provider. Apple tends not to work on wet systems depending on how wet it got. In any case you’ve lost your AppleCare as liquid damage voids any coverage as well as any workmanship warrantees (UK) as this was your fault. An AASP might be willing but may tell you they won’t offer any warranty on the repair (at your risk) it all depends on how bad it was. Most likely they will need to replace the logic board and maybe the battery too. This could be expensive! I hope your friend is willing to put up some of the money to pay for the repairs.
