Chosen Solution
Hello everyone, I am writing because I also have a problem with my iMac 21.5" late 2009, these days I’m changing the HD with a Crucial MX200 SSD (500 GB) The problem is the fan control, the sensor that is on the HD where I have to put on the SSD and then automatically controls the fan SSD or do I have to do it in another way? Also if there is another way you could tell me the link guide which explains (if possible) step by step on how to make. Thanks for the help in advance!
To start with review this IFIXIT guide on gaining access to your current HD. In place of a replacing drive you are putting in your SSD: iMac Intel 21.5" EMC 2308 Hard Drive Replacement Now jump to Step 10 this is where the HD’s built in thermal sensor is disconnected. In your case you have no sensor in the SSD so you have a problem! You’ll need to get an external sensor to replace the HD’s sensor to place on your SSD. Here is the needed sensor: OWC In-line Digital Thermal Sensor for iMac 2009-2010 Hard Drive Upgrade. Now the last part of your issues: The HD is a 3.5" device your SSD is a 2.5" device you’ll need a adapter frame to make up for the different sizes. Here’s one choice: OWC 2.5" to 3.5" Drive Adapter Bracket. Update (08/30/2015) Please click on the Blue URL links I provided above they will take you to the needed parts. You need both the sensor and the bracket frame. Follow the IFIXIT guide to put in the SSD. You still need to format and install the OS onto your new SSD. To do that use your recovery disk that came with your system.
