When we cook something that generates a lot of steam the microwave stops working. All the display lights come on and it says there is a short. If I unplug it and let it sit for a few hours it will start to work again.

@grproto1 the steam turns into liquid once it cools down a bit and will reach the components of your microwave. It will then shorten out your MW. Once all the liquid either evaporates or drips of the components, it will restart. Besides registers as a short circuit it will also create corrosion inside your microwave, which will eventually lead to permanent failure. Relocate your microwave or hang it higher above the stove.
