it starts but by the time it gets to windows login screen it shuts off.the fan doesnt seem to come on,battery is fine,is it shuting down due to it getting hot or is there a safety switch of some kind

1st thing to do is check if laptop fan and fins are clogged up with dust which are preventing it from spinning, then look at above suggestions

had this a few times myself. make sure the fan connector did not come out of it’s socket and that the socket itself is sitting flush and that both pins are making their way through the socket and into the fan connector. common issue with the D series.

Hi, This is definitely a overheating problem. try using laptop ventilation stand to save your laptop from getting over heated. Good luck.
