I too have a problem. I turn the key and the starter engages and sort of grunts but then stops. Turn again and the grunt is less powerful. Turn again and less powerful again. Bought battery. Turn again and still less powerful. Now I turn the key and almost nothing. Is that what a solenoid would sound like if going bad?
Robert Meyer sounds more like a bad starter. Usually a solenoid is a go-no go situation. Clean all the cables and make sure that you have a good ground connection. If that does not work you should check the starter and solenoid. Use something like this video to see how to check the solenoid
