I replaced my factory SSD with an OWC Aura Pro x SSD I got the folder with “?” and the Apple Troubleshooting told me it was the drive with my original drive. I replaced the SSD following the instructions in the OWC guide, but the drive is not showing up in recovery mode. I have an external drive that I created to boot from. When booting from the external, I can go into Disk Utility and format the new SSD according to the OWC instructions, but when I click get info, the drive says “writeable: no.” Is there a way to fix this?

It sounds like you have created an older bootable drive (Serria or older) But your OWC drive was setup with a newer macOS (High Sierra or Mojave). Why this is important is Apple has updated the file system from HFS+ to APFS. Using Internet Recovery lets setup and install the newer macOS Mojave. You do want to have a good internet connection and if you can use a wired connection Vs WiFi. Restart your system and press the Option - Command (⌘) - R keys together. It will take some time, hopefully that gets you going. Reference: How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery

I’m having the same issue as described above. New SSD, doesn’t show in MacBook Air 2013 when I try internet recovery. If I load the Macbook with a bootable USB, then go to disk utility I can see the new drive, erase it, name it, etc.

Hi, Got a new issue regarding similar problem. Macbook Air, 2013 with Mojave and 480 GB OWC disk is randomly not recognizing the disk show the ? folder at startup. Already updated firmare of the disk. Any clue? Thanks
