Hello, the problem started like a month ago and till this day I can’t fix it. First of all the blinking question mark in the Folder icon appeared. I tried verifying, repairing, tests were OK but in result nothing changed. I erased everything and tried installing SIERRA with auto internet utility. Stuck at 13% and failed. Then I tried installing YOSEMITE booting from usb. Success. While updating the apps and setting up, laptip restarted - FOLDIER icon again. I tried repeating everything but this time installation failed. I read that SATA cable is common problem in Mid2012 models so I ordered new cable 821-1480-A. But while trying install OS El Capitan, the setup failed and SSD became undetected. Tried NVRAM reset, other utility stuff, but the SSD becomes detected only after repairing with old cable that I replaced. After putting new cable it fails the installation and even repair/verify fails. I realized that the original version of cable that was in my laptop was 821-2049A so I bought another one hoping the model was wrong. Now that I have new cable of the same model as old one, first time I connected it, SSD was detected but after fixing/repairing (via internet, new OS version) and trying to boot installation of El Capitan from USB again, SSD became undetected and it is so with both new cables. I’m completely lost without any idea for possible solution, at the moment thinking of samehow attaching SSD to another laptop to check if the prblem is not within my SSD. Please if you have any ideas, your support means a lot.
You put in a 2011 cable not the newer 2012 cable. Here’s the correct cable: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody (Mid 2012) Hard Drive Cable - Apple P/N 923-0104 This cable is rated for SATA III (6.0 Gb/s) drives. The marking on the cable is the makers part ID not the Apple part ID so it can be mis-leading. Do be careful as many people are selling the older cable design which won’t really support your newer SSD drive. You’ll also want to place some electricians tape on the uppercase where the cable crosses over and lastly don’t crease the cable you want nice arcs around the bends.
