Spilled water on laptop, dried with towel and turned off then turned upside down and let dry near a fan. Didn’t know how to take battery out. So will it possibly work?

Hi, What is the make and model number of the laptop? Use the ifixit search feature to see if there are any repair guides for your make and model laptop that may show how to remove the battery or look on YouTube to check if there are any “teardown” videos for your model to see how to remove the battery. The water causes corrosion and provides circuit paths for the electricity which were not in the laptop’s operating design and could damage the components. The corrosion starts immediately and doesn’t stop until it has been properly cleaned away. There is always power at various points on the motherboard even when the laptop is off. The power button is not a power isolating switch. Think of the laptop as being in an extremely low power state rather than being switched off completely when it is “off”. In the meantime do not try to charge or to turn on the laptop and when you find out how, (or provide info back here so maybe someone can help) remove the battery as soon as possible so as to minimize any further problems. After this you need to disassemble the rest of the laptop and clean all the affected parts using Isopropyl Alcohol 99%+ (available at electronics parts stores) to remove all traces of corrosion. Do not use “rubbing alcohol” as in some cases this is only 70% IPA or less, can contain additives and is not as effective. If you do have to use it, check the label to verify the amount of IPA. The higher the concentration (%) of IPA the better Here is a link that describes the process. Electronics Water Damage As always with electronics, especially surface mounted pcb, be gentle when handling and especially when brushing away the corrosion. You do not want to remove any components from the board. Also remove any shields that may be covering some components and clean there as the water may have got in under them as well. The ends of any cables and the connectors need to be cleaned as well. Hopefully after you have done all this time the laptop might work correctly again without any problems.

Hello, Chassin, i am an electronic engineer, and have a degree in computer science, and i think you should let it dry for at least 24 hours before you even plug it in to charge, unless you take it completely apart, i doubt it will be dry enough to even be able after 24 hours… So, to summarize, let it dry for 24-48 hours with a fan on it Update (09/11/2020) Let me know how it works
