speedometer doesnt work
To avoid being accused of trying to alter your odometer, I would have this one repaired at the dealership.
I know it’s an old thread. But this is a great link. It depends how involved you want to get on this project but for someone who isn’t afraid of taring into things here you go How to replace your stepper motors in the instrument cluster for some GM vehicles: http://forums.trailvoy.com/showthread.ph…
It’s the stepper motor behind the instrument cluster, GM had a lot of problems with that. If you know how to solder , you can get a new updated motor for about 12.00 and solder it on. It’s pretty easy .
It is probably your Vehicle speed sensor. It is mounted on the tailshaft of the transmission and is held it with one small 8 mm bolt. Your speedometer wont work right and it will probably shift wrong or wont shift at all because the transmission relies on the speed signal to know when to shift. The tahoe/yukon use the 4l60e transmission.
I took my battery out to fix a hardline hose on my wiper squirter pump motor that cracked. After putting the battery back in my speedometer was pegged out past 100mph! Looked online at how to fix ……Ha Ha! Not pulling dash apart…. and thought all I did was take the cable off! well I just had someone watch the gauge while I wiggled the NEGATIVE battery cable (Alarm was going off and on) until it went back to 0mph! I would try this FIRST! …… It CAN be that easy!
