I have just been given a set of Sony headphones model number MDR-XB450AP. When plug them into my computer and my iPod touch they work fine but when I plug the extension cable that I have the volume on headphone is low and faint. I know the extension cable work alright with other heads. Update (05/02/2017) Here are the photos that you wanted. Photo 1 is of the Sony headphones. Photo 2 is of the Sony headphone plug. Photo 3 is of the other headphones that work. Photo 4 is of the plug from the other headphones that work. Photo 5 and 6 is of the extension cable.

Hi, Your problem is that the “ground” connector" in the “female” socket of the extension cable is contacting the “microphone” connector in the Sony “male” plug and not the ground connector. If you get one of these adapters to connect between the Sony headphones and the extension cable, it will solve the problem. There are two main “wiring standards CTIA & OMTP” and depending on which particular one you have (and you might not know until you try it) and what you are trying to connect it to, this adapter will allow it to work for either one, unless you don’t need it at all. You do not have to buy a new cable. Update (05/04/2017) Hi Angela Cameron, Just search for a 3.5mm 4-Pole TRRS Standards Bi-Directional Adapter and select the supplier of your choice.

Extension and Sony headphone not compatible. Simple terms, extension has 2 line on pin, heads have 3. So when you plug extension to port, you are only getting 2/3 of sound. Buy ext with 3 pins.
