My MacBook suddenly lost its airport and sound - the airport came back intermittently, but the sound has never come back – everything else seems to be working fine. It is almost as if the computer never even had either sound or an airport – the airport comes up with a blank fan and apparently isn’t installed, and the sound has a crossed circle. I have tried wiggling the jack socket and nothing happens (it does not have sound through headphones either). As far as I am aware it suffered no trauma beforehand, I presume that the sound card and airport card both came loose, but am only guessing. I am yet to try the instructions for the airport, but notice there doesn’t seem to be anything about sound. Also, I have tried restarting the computer using R+P+ALT+Apple, which worked occassionally for the airport, but could be coincidental. If anyone could help or even explain what has happened I would be very grateful!

For the sound, first take a look at this Q&A: sound not working properly The airport part is 661-3890. First I would open it and check the connections for the cables and se-seat the airport card, here’s how: MacBook Core Duo AirPort Card Replacement
The Airport card might be loose There is no “sound card” only a DSP chip on the motherboard. This would tend to point toward a damaged logic board, or at least that chip. With proper equipment the fault may be diagnosed but it’ not really a DIY kind of repar. Your call as to spend the money to repair a box that old, or sell laptop for parts and put that money towards a new laptop. If this answer is acceptable please return and mark it. Good Luck, N.
