I have similar problem. Im my case, if i bypass the SMC check at booting, the system runs fine on battery, although it does not recognize the battery, fan runs on full speed, and megasafe led on wall charger connector stays off the whole time. Which is normal considering SMC controls both battery management and fan speed. In this state, computer runs on battery without the charger connected. When I run system through SMC check at booting like in normal booting. macbook wont run on just the battery, I have to connect adapter to use the macbook. The led light on megasafe wall charger connector stays green the whole time, it does not change to orange so it can charge battery. In both situations battery indicator lights on the side of macbook pro doesn’t work. They don’t work when I press the button, they don’t work when I reboot the system like it used to. And yes, I cleaned the megasafe adapter, battery indicator wire is connected to the logic board. The white sleep led light flashes 5 times before booting up. The system won’t recognize the battery, system info says: Battery Information: Charge Information: Charge Remaining (mAh): 0 Fully Charged: No Charging: No Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 0 Health Information: Cycle Count: 0 Battery Installed: No Amperage (mA): 0 Voltage (mV): 0

  • and the strange thing is battery indicator sometime has black X on it or sometime it says 0%, and when this happens, system says: Battery Information: Charge Information: Charge Remaining (mAh): 0 Fully Charged: No Charging: No Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 0 Health Information: Normal Cycle Count: 0 Battery Installed: Yes Amperage (mA): 0 Voltage (mV): 0 I did reset SMC quite a few time, no result. I did reset PRAM/NVRAM few time, no result. I need help. My macbook pro is Mid 2009, so the warranty is out of the question. I replaced batteries like three times already, haven’t found solution yet!

I’d start by replacing the DC board if you plan to fix this your self. Otherwise you may want to go to the Apple Store to get this serviced

I just wanted to chime in to say I was also having the same problems - battery not detected, frequent fans coming on/system process taking up 95% of CPU, general strange booting behaviour - and unhooking the battery indicator from the mainboard fixed the problem straight away. Thank you!

I had similar issue, green light but battery not charging. So I took it to apple store, he tried resetting SMC, no luck, so he did a diagnostic and found that the battery was in good condition, so he took the laptop in the back room and it works now… he took the back cover off as he mentioned to us that there was something that spill in the laptop!!! but don’t know what he did. No charge for approx 1 hour of troubleshooting!!!!

Hey Alex, I just updated my macbook pro 2008, to el capitan, and everything was fine for a few days, till yesterday when exactly what you mention started happening. Although now that I read through the symtpoms you’ve mentioned, I do recall odd fan behaviour, that would happen on and off, but never thought much of , since everything else was working fine. Have any of the above mentioned solutions worked for you? Because I too am out of warranty, with the same led flash 5 times, battery not charging, sleep indicator blinks few times on startup. Any help would be fantastic, because I am about to attempt one or more of these fixes mentioned here. Fingers crossed. Thanks in advance Nigel R

The green signal comes on for a second and goes off. Help me.
