SIM card says searching or no service when I set it up with my carrier do I need a new sim reader?

Probably not, it’s a fairly known issue with iPhone 6 and concerns Baseband IC loosing connection to external data lines. It requires removal and reballing of Baseband IC and repair of the faulty pads through bridging. It’s a demanding task requiring a skillfull microsolderer.
