Battery shows 83% charge. Plug in charger. Following morning screen shows flat battery & won’t start. No restart or reset procedures work. Unplugging charger lead shows the icon inviting charger to be connected. Leave disconnected for a couple of days. Press start button and phone starts normally. Shows full charge. This has happened a couple of times. Partner not happy! Any suggestions please? (Non-apple battery fitted).
Scott’s recommendations for troubleshooting are a great start; the battery is the weakest link in the phone and the most likely component to fail. That said, if a new battery (or dock - btw, check to see if the dock is dirty or full of lint) doesn’t solve the problem, the issue is likely on the logic board. IMO, a micro-soldering repair can be very cost effective and solve problems that regular shops and Apple can’t address. There are lot’s of great micro-soldering repair shops worldwide and most work on a no fix/no fee basis so there’s not much risk involved. And besides, the iPhone 6S as a phone is still very relevant and has enough resale value built-in to make a repair a worthwhile investment.
In our Shops setting, we would run a trial and error diagnostic, in which case; we would start with a battery replacement, see if that fixes the issue. if it fixes it, great. if not; we would move on to a charge port. if that fixed it, great. if not; we would move on to a factory reset. if that fixed it, great. if not; we would move on to a board reflow. If that fixed it, Great. if not; it would be a board component failure, in which for labor costs, usually isnt even worth the value of the device, an most home locations wouldnt have the tools to do the repair.
