Chosen Solution

So I am a clothing brand owner and I am hoping to start designing my own t-shirts without a designer (I have designing experience) however I cannot run applications like photoshop, premiere etc because I only have 4gb RAM and 128gb storage. I am not sure whether I should maybe upgrade my ssd to 256 gb + or whether I should get a RAM upgrade or maybe even both?

mmm… While you could improve your system I don’t think that’s the wise direction given your needs. To upgrade the RAM you’ll need to replace the logic board as the RAM is soldered to it! MacBook Air 13" (Mid 2013-Early 2014) 1.4 GHz Logic Board That will get you to 8 GB which is still on the lean side for mid to high end graphics work.

While you can replace the SSD quite easily, You’ll want something larger so you have enough space to hold your work without having to use an external drive (which you still will want for backing up!) But the cost between the logic board and the new SSD is about what you can get a used 2014/15 13” MacBook Pro with 16 GB of RAM and 500GB/1TB SSD. You even might want a larger display 15” so you can see more of your workspace.
