It is a Vizio E55-E1. The screen was already dim at one corner when we got it from a friend for free. Now, about 10% of the screen looks like its normally lit. I had the brightness pretty high as well, to make up for the dimness of that one corner when we got it. Just one morning I turned it on and almost the whole screen was super dim. I have no knowledge of repair and I’d be going based on your responses and a YouTube tutorial. Is it worth trying since the entire screen is dim basically and I have no knowledge of how to repair it? The image I posted auto adjusted a little I think. It is probably 50% brighter than the screen actually is IRL. This is also at max brightness.

@andrewdeanox that is a difficult question to answer. We would need to see what your screen looks like. I mean what it shows when turned on. This does not sounds like “ a normal” backlight failure. That would be a relative easy fix. This sounds like it is possibly a panel error which is a PITA to repair. No worries about not having done any repairs. It is really not rocket science and if you know how to manage a screw driver we can assist you with this, if it is the backlight. Anyhow post some pictures of your TV with your QUESTION. You will have to edit it and follow this guide Adding images to an existing question Update (01/31/2022) Anyhow you would have to take your back cover off. You power board should be looking like this.

Your TV’s backlight connector is marked in yellow. You will need a multimeter. Set that to VDC. Your red probe will be positive and black is negative. The contacts are marked according to the writing on the board. It should say something like VLED pos (+) and VLED neg (neg). Set your meter high at about 200V and see what it shows you. Remember that you have to do this on a hot circuit, meaning your TV has to be plugged in and turned on. DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING ON THE BOARD WHILE IT IS IN THE STATE. Good Video about this on here By your picture it could be that some of the LED’s on the backlight strip could have failed which would require you to replace the backlight strips. If the voltage is good then you may need to consider that. This guide, even so it is for a different make and model, shows what would be involved with that. LG 55UH6150 backlight LED replacement
