Chosen Solution

Hi, I am new here. At home we own two macbooks, one ipad and a couple of iphones. We’d like to have a separate device to create a library with all our shared photos and from which we can play music using airplay speakers. To keep the budget low I was thinking of getting an old mac mini, connect it to the tv and keep it always in “sleep” mode, ready to use. So if we want to play music we can use our iphones/ ipad with the remote app. If we want to work on our photo library we would just have to switch on the tv. Do you think it would work? An old mac mini should still be able to play music via airplay, shouldn’t it? Thanks for any help!

You do have a good idea! I in fact have a Mid 2011 model which I have 2 TB drives installed just to do that! But! You do have an older model here which will limit you ;-{ The highest OS the Core Solo/Core Duo series can support is Snow Leopard 10.6.8. While you can do it, most of the newer apps just won’t work on this series. If you can swing it look for a used Mid 2011 model as it can support Sierra and High Sierra MacOS’s and offers a much faster SATA interface (SATA III).
