I have an early 2015 13" MacBook Air. I was watching YouTube and the sound made a soft buzz and stopped. When I look at sound settings there is no internal speakers option. When I try to change the volume it shows a circle with a line though it. I’ve tried rebooting and putting the headphones in and out. From searching online it seems like it is a hardware issue with the sound board. Just wanted to ask if I’m jumping to conclusions too quickly or if it pretty much has to be the sound/IO board? I would rather fix it myself than spend a lot of money paying someone to do it. Thank you so much for any guidance.

You got the right idea! But before replacing, check the connections sometimes a loose or some corrosion can cause issues.
