I got this problematic ipad air. It had to be restored and updated via itunes. Afterwards, itunes shows its linked to an apple id which i have no access. the ipad air is now ready to be activated, i can go through the setups. However, I am afraid once I activate it, the lock will appear and it stays bricked forever. Is this what they called icloud locked?

If the device is linked to an AppleID, then yes, it is “iCloud locked”, or in apple-speak, Activation Locked. There is nothing you can do to remove iCloud locks, other than to contact the original owner of the device and have them remove it from their iCloud account.
