i am trying to fix an SE 1st generation for use as a daily driver, 1st display i forgot to unplug the battery for connecting/disconnecting 2nd display i was careful and i disconnected the battery if i wanted to remove/install anything so i have 1 display with a broken lcd and one which bootloops the device i have run some tests with the two displays 1st display all buttons work (unable to test volume buttons due to bad lcd)2nd display no backlight, lcd or anything the phone bootloops i disconnected the front camera on both and got a similar result phone booted up on the 1st display and nothing happened with the 2nd i had concerns about long screw damage due to me just not knowing what i’m doing from what i tested i can guess its either long screw damage or a faulty display (both screens and the battery are from fixit) some notes about the phone’s condition:it was dropped several times, was used by a smoker, was used for light tasks (solitaire, mail, had a bent corner that i fixed with a hammer and a screwdriver very carefully,had a battery problem at the time i received it
I believe the displays are all dead since they all display the same symptoms now (no lcd or backlight) so this narrows it down to a faulty installation on my part. The lesson is to always disconnect the battery before connecting/disconnecting another component to prevent display shortages and other phone anomalies I also discovered that you need to connect the iphone to a lightning cable to get it to boot after working on it so this is what I suggest doing If reassembling a phone: plug in all the components THEN the battery after connecting the battery you can connect the phone to a power cord if it doesn’t boot If disassembling the phone: remove it from any charging cables/wireless coils disconnect the battery FIRST if possible (it might not be because some phone companies make their phones very difficult to fix) My final words are to always keep your screws organized and to follow the guides here down to the word they’re only effective if you follow them completely
This may seem odd, but did you replace ALL the screws you took out with the originals? I haven’t taken apart an iphone in awhile, but I remember some older models wouldn’t work properly unless they were ALL put back. Sometimes people leave a few out to save time when they test that it’s working, and of course it won’t.
