when i turn my 60gb ps3 on it does nothing the screen stays black and you hear no sound and the menu does not boot up what could be wrong?
The first thing you would want to try is using the AVMULTIOUT port with the corresponding cables to see if it’s a faulty HDMI or the problem is somewhere else. If you get an image over AVMULTIOUT it is related to the HDMI cable or the actual port on the console. In this case, you will need to do the same test with the HDMI port. If you are still having issues, it is likely related to the CPU or GPU in the console. While the ports being dirty is rarely the problem, it may not hurt to try cleaning the ports an ruling out that possibility. It can also be a port issue as well, which complicates things more. There is no permanent repair, sadly. The best you can do is reflow it, back the system up and get your stuff off the console and migrate it to a new one. There is no way to repair the console with a replacement CPU and GPU without console banning it and rendering the Blu-Ray drive useless.
the thermal paste is a really thin application, use something like a credit card to smooth it on…less than a mm thick. Depending on the size it’s something like a grain of rice spread out..it shouldn’t be seeping over the edges of the chip when you reapply the cpu/gpu.you put the paste on, then put the cpu on, then turn on. take a look at the ylod repair for these things, it should sort some of these questions out for you.
Have you tried resetting the Video Output? If the PS3 LED stays green and nothing else happens. Press and hold the power button till the LED goes RED [Off] Then press and hold power button until you hear a beep then release. Video will attempt to reset to lower settings. If you are using HDMI and this still fails i would suggest trying a different HDMI lead or the Composite AV Leads [RED/WHITE/YELLOW] before attempting a major fix like described above. If you change the leads dont forget to reset the video on successful change
