This MBP was pushed way past impending doom warning signs, and eventually a hinge gave out, screen hinge screws stripped the threads of the screen assembly on 3 of 4 screw holes, WiFi/BT cables snapped along with webcam cable. The screen assembly completely separated away from the body with no connections of any kind remaining. I have new hinges, new antennas, new LVDS cable. The screen works, the antennas work, but I’m left with a torn webcam cable sticking out the bottom of the screen (as picture) and cannot attach the screen as the screws won’t tighten - the threads in the screen assembly are no good. Is there an easy way to work out the correct webcam cables to resolder back together with the screen assembly still in one piece? Please could any one also recommend a work around to get reliably tight screws attaching the screen to the hinges? Willing to give up on the webcam as not going to remove the screen glass but it’s a write off if I cannot get the screen attached. Full screen assembly replacement is cost prohibitive also. Thanks.

So I eventually got the structural side repaired. Giving up on the webcam cable as I don’t want to open the display to get at the cable. I tried fresh screws and they tore back out within a few folds, so I knew the threads in the top lid were too far gone, even with Loctite involved.

  1. Get new M2.5 allen bolts
  2. Tap a 2.5mm thread through existing locations (it’s not pretty but all the way through was the most secure way)
  3. Install M2.5 allen bolts through along with Loctite
  4. Shear off protruding bolts
  5. Enjoy functioning hinge system again So far so good. Better than sending it to electronics recycling. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions and help.

Hi Yes it is possible to solder your webcam cable back together but it’s not going to be easy as it will require complex micro soldering What I would do here is buy another faulty display and strip the cable back so you can see which cables go where as I doubt you will find a wiring diagram As for the stripped screws there’s not much we can do without it going to the extreme ,you could use superglue and glue the screws back in or you could use red loctite BUT BE WARNED it will never ever come out again easily if you use these methods but it will hopefully fix the issue Hopefully this helps If you need any more help please ask Thanks:-)

Ouch! You’ve got a mess! Sadly stripped out holes within the lid side hinges really needs a new display assembly MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Mid 2015) Display Assembly the web camera cable is not easy to replace and spicing something workable won’t be easy. And as SMC monitors a thermal/voltage sensor within it it needs to be wired otherwise SMC will push your system into CPU safe mode ramping up the fan and lowering the CPU’s clocking. So the easiest fix is replacing the display, now the rub! This model is still highly desirable so finding a display is not easy as you only have the used marketplace but finding a dead system to swap out the display is what I would do and often the cost is a lot less. Here’s the guide to do it MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2015 Display Assembly Replacement I have two of these and I’ll tell you they are worth saving.
