Chosen Solution
The screen went black randomly although backlight was still working, I thought this was a screen problem so I replaced the screen with a spare one I had which then the same problem occurred, soft resets did not work. I put the phone into recovery mode and connected to iTunes and restored but during the process the phone goes onto the Apple logo screen with a bar and a few seconds later an error comes up on iTunes (unknown error occurred(9)) and the phone goes back to the screen not working. Someone help please.
sound like theres an issue with the logic board, maybe a short on PP3V0_NAND line
