Chosen Solution
A client has a 2012 MacBook Pro that is running perfectly -except- the screen is way too bright and washed out. When I created a new user account and logged in as that new user, the problem disappears and I could calibrate the screen (which I made “available to all users”). When I logged back in as the client and tried to use that calibration, there was no improvement; still washed out. I remember encountering this sometime in the past and did manage to fix it but, it’s been so long I’ve forgotten what to do. I zapped the PRAM, deleted what display prefs I could find, booted into safe mode. I will mention that, after the client logs in, the screen looks okay for about a second or so and then it appears as though some window may be opening and disappearing in the blink of an eye after which the screen problem instantly appears. I could move her account over to a new user but I know there’s an answer to this involving some magic keystrokes during boot and/or trashing a bunch of prefs, etc. Any assistance will be appreciated. Apparently the client says the Display Contrast slider in the Accessibility System Preference>Display pane was not set all the way to the left. She must have been playing and fouled it up. So, unless she tells me otherwise, I’ll call this question answered.
