I dropped my computer and the hinge is not working right. I can close the laptop if I put enough force but the display does not line up correctly with the base of the computer. Also, I can put it in tablet mode, if I put enough force, but again the display does not line up correctly with the base. So I just keep the computer open. I have not opened it and the display and all other components still work but here are my questions: Do I need to buy a new hinge? Where can I find that sort of part? What would be the best possible course of action? Where can I find instructions on how to change the hinge?
Hi @valxander , I suggest that you open up the laptop and check whether the problem is with the actual hinge or perhaps the hinge mount. Here’s a link to the ifixit Asus Q551L Repair guides which may be of some help to gain access so that you can inspect the left hinge, left hinge mounting area. Here’s the part number for the left hinge : 13NB0691M07011 If you search online by typing the part number only in the search box of your browser, you’ll get results for suppliers of the part. Here’s a link to just one supplier - (example only). It’s shown just to give you an idea of the cost of the part. There are other suppliers that may suit you better.
