Screen goes black and most of the time won’t respond to keyboard. Then I get battery icon - even though battery in menu bar had been 80% just a minute before. (Battery was just replaced last week, and Mac seemed fine for first few days.) Sometimes the display comes back on. Everything looks normal like the screen just went to sleep, and battery shows 80%. Restarting doesn’t seem to help. Mostly no chime straight to low battery icon. If it does chime and start, it all works fine, and battery shows 80% charge. Fans aren’t on, nothing seems hot. But then screen goes black within 5 minutes, low battery icon. I’ve tried the SMC reset (UPDATE: I didn’t do it correctly, though). This may have been a problem before the battery replacement, but I was blaming the bad battery and bad connection at the MagSafe point. Before this began, but after battery replacement, magnetic connection was getting very very hot. Any ideas?
UPDATE: I reset the SMC - properly this time - and now it seems to be working fine. OMG I was so frustrated and the fix was SO simple. Here are instructions on reset for various models, by year: https://kb.indwes.edu/Computers_and_Devi…
