Need help! I did a screen repair for a customer about 2 weeks ago and today she says it cracked w/out even dropping it. What can be the cause of this? My guess is frame damage? To much pressure against the screen.
This is always a hard call, had the same situation, this summer on iPhone 6. I aggree I would check that area for signs it was dropped. If your not sure I would tell the customer you will replace the screen at your cost this one time. I know it sucks but some times it’s not worth the fight. In my situation gave the customer two opitions I would refund him $60 from the first repair or I would replace the screen at cost for $70 (screens were cheaper then) and customer paid the $70. Three months late I fixed an iPad for that same customer, but you have to be careful because you don’t want to be working for free.
Add me to the list. I last checked my phone, went upstairs to work, placed the phone on the desk. Next time I looked at it, it was cracked. And no, I didn’t drop my phone and it has been in a case since day one. I don’t put it in the backpocket, etc. The crack emanates from the rectangular handset speaker next to the front camera. I have to admit, if someone showed me, I would think there was an impact or something. Except now that it happened to me, it is possible for self cracking, even with a gently cared for phone.
I just woke up this morning and I had a big crack down my screen. I put it charging last night, in a safe position where nothing could fall on it or it could fall and I wake up to find the screen cracked and my phone has an otter box case. I’m really annoyed because I replaced the screen around 2 weeks ago and now it’s cracked even though I didn’t drop it this time,! Someone help please!
Screen cracking on their own, may have been due to bad battery, which expands when going bad. Had this happen.
It is possible. I just found this link through Google because I was searching why my phone just cracked by itself.
my phone broke in my hand during a lighting storm and I don’t know what happened my screen is shattered but I can still see and use the screen.
I placed my Samsung note 10 on the book, after 5 minutes i heard a sound and i looked at my phone and found a small crack on the glass. After 2 hours the phone was on the table and i heard another cracking sound and i found another crack from the corner to bottom… no one believes me that it happened on its own…
I was just scrolling through Pinterest. My phone was not charging, my phone was not warm. In fact it was the first time I actually used it today. Then, pop. The screen is cracked straight across… what the heck… I was staring straight at it when it cracked
Most customers will say it wasn’t dropped but it could have taken a impact of some kind that will cause the screen to crack. You should take a look at the screen to see the area of impact and make a determination.
Are you sure the part was an OEM screen?
I would have not believed a screen could break without dropping it either but it happened to me too. I put the phone on the charger overnight on the floor beside the plug in between the bed and the wall. The phone was the only thing on the floor where it could not even be reached except by your hand as nothing else could fit there. Yet, somehow when I retrieved it this morning, the screen was cracked inside an otter box case.
This same thing happened to me! I had my phone in a case and plugged in charging, where it was out of the way of anything. It was in the same position and when I took it off the charge, it was cracked from the front facing cameras down to the face of the phone inside the case. This is a very gently used phone that has never happened with any other phone ever before.
I think it might be because of the type of charger that made the screen crack but like who knows cause my phone was also charging when it randomly cracked cause I didn’t drop it or anything so
Happened to me with my iPhone 6. I used it before going to bed (no crack). I charged overnight and when I woke up it was cracked. I am not upset however as I am buying an 11 for myself for Christmas :) iPhone is a great product, I mean what electronic device can you use endlessly day after day for 6 years, traveling around the world, and not a single problem? It’s a work horse.
I think is because you drop it in the night and someone pick it up. In the morning you sa cracked
Cracking on their own may have been due to a bad battery or It is possible if the LCD glass to have a flaw or slight crack and heat/cold or vibration can cause it to crack fully much like a car windscreen!
I literally just had this happen to me minutes ago. iPhone5. I was at my computer. I was cleaning battery acid out of a devices internals nearby. Phone was on the charger, plugged into the wall, & on. Not hot, moderately cool to the touch, not super cold or super hot. It didn’t move at all, I just heard a crack, looked over, & noticed my phone had cracked. Seeing how many people here had this happen while the phone was plugged in & in a case makes me think that somehow this is maybe a power surge? Not sure if that would do this, but it’s a theory.
