I received my MacBook Pro 16 today and I was disappointed to see it scratched in the top-left corner:

Admittedly, it travelled a long way: from Texas, US to Romania. The package was shipped with USPS and the MacBook was in the original Apple box. The obvious explanation is that USPS messed up and the scratch was caused by the bumps that went into on and off-loading the package to and from airplanes. But shouldn’t the crack be bigger? It could also be a fabric defect. The expediter didn’t open the Apple box, so it’s hard to confirm this - but let’s suppose that it is true, or that this specific MacBook had the bezels poorly assembled. Can this be part of Apple’s standard 12 months warranty?

It looks like a rub more than a scratch or crack. Using your finger nail do you feel a roughness or a slight grab? If the system was in its original packaging and the box (packing) was not damaged then its likely was something at the factory. If the packaging was damaged then the force could have damaged your display. Now the hard part! Technically you still have warranty coverage which you could apply for. But, the rub here is you’re not in the country which you bought the system so its going to take a bit of effort to get Apple to accept it as their issue. iStyle Romania is still the only authorized Apple service provider as far as I know, you’ll need to talk with them. If the glass is damaged it will require a new display assembly which is quite costly! Did you apply for shippers insurance? I would talk to them to see if you can get them to cover the cost. But the clock is ticking! Beyond a day or two after receiving the package they could claim you broke it! Did you get AppleCare+ service contract? I would do that ASAP !! Again time is an issue! Apple wants you to commit within a week of your purchase. While that won’t cover the full cost it will offer you a cheaper cost.
