Chosen Solution
I have a 5th generation ipod that has the no-sound issue, I have isolated it to the capacitor C860 on the logic board as when I press lighltly on it with a plastic probe, the sound works. I have tried resoldering the connections on the board in case of a dry joint, but this did not fix it. My next step would be to replace the capacitor, but I cannot find out what the value is of this surface mount. Does anyone have circuit diagram or a component list for this device? You can see it in the photo, it is one of the two capacitors, I assume they are the same value.
David, I just measure both of those caps and it comes up to 14uF for both. Hope this helps, good luck.
