Hi everyone, Can I use SATA on board for Optical drives for HDD/SSD ? And it’s same speed (SATA3) like on HDD connectors? Thanks a lot. Update (05/13/2022) @oldturkey03 no I know that PATA and SATA are totally different, but on my board are two SATA connections ODD_SATA (Optical Disc Drive?) how you can see on attached picture (blue IDE , red SATA). So my question is, can I connect HDD/SDD on this two connectors ? Not sure if someone still using CD/DVD :)Need more space :)
@roboscrap your optical drive should actually be a Parallel ATA (PATA), originally AT Attachment, also known as ATA or IDE interface. It maxed out at 133MB/s. It will not have the speed that your SATA 3 drives have. Not compatible interfaces (connections). Let us know the exact year for your Mac Pro Update (05/13/2022) Yes you can use those ports. Remember that the 2006 - 2012 Mac Pros never saw internal SATA3 so you are tight to that speed on those connections
