When I went to rebuild my 8700 I forgot to change the boot sequence to CD/DVD. so thinking I could take and put the Data cable in the 0 port then the SSD Data cable in 1 I should be able to get into the system, But no good I’ve tried all combinations. I even put the old video card in no good tried another from a xps 8700 no good. Monitor cable is a DVI-I Video card is DVI-D but I was told they would work together. Any Ideas?
@kman2000 Fred do you get a post beep when the computer is started do you hear fans running . Does the computer have an OS yet or are you trying to load one and cant get a screen up . Here’s some things to try
- Make sure the video card is seated properly and that the slot is clean and free of debris
- Try a different video cable the one you have may be defective . If theres a different type of connector on the monitor try using that .
- Check your power supply If you have another try it. the supply may be bad
- It sounds like you’ve tried different cards but is there an onboard graphics on the motherboard that you can try
- Try using a single stick of ram . or try pressing the mem button on the motherboard if your motherboard is so equipped . These are just a few things you can try . More info may also help if you can provide it
What are you trying to do? Boot the system from Optical Drive? IF that is what you are trying to do, when turning on the computer, press F12 on the keyboard and it will show a boot menu allowing you to choose what drive to boot from. If the optical drive doesn’t show up, there is something else wrong.
