Hello. I’m hoping someone might point me in the right direction here. A few months ago my 9-year-old Samsung plasma TV (PN50C8000) developed 1 vertical line (reddish or blackish line) on the right-hand side. I tried cleaning all the inner cables and connections, but it didn’t help, so I just ignored it. Now the TV took a turn for the worse. When it is plugged in, the red standby light is on. If I turn the TV on, it gives its normal click sound and turns on (but it doesn’t play the startup chime). The backlight comes on briefly (~5 sec) but then goes off. The red standby light blinks a few times then turns off (~5 sec). Nothing at all displays onscreen when pressing buttons on the remote or on the TV. No audio as far as I can tell. It doesn’t turn off really, you have to unplug, replug, then turn it on again it if you want to get the backlight to come on again. I took the back off, looked to see if any of the boards had something fried or something obviously visually wrong, but it all appears normal to me. I wiggled the cords/ribbons a bit, but the TV still behaves the same way. Is it the power board, or motherboard or something else? How can I find out? Nearing Black Friday, I’m wondering if it is worth the fix on this once good TV, or if I have to just buy a new TV instead. Attached are some photos. Thanks very much.

Hi @burkdan, We’ve been using the wrong info regarding the Standby power connection point on the power board, because the troubleshooting documentation is for a BN44-00334A power board and not the BN44-00333A board that you have. The troubleshooting documentation states that the Standby voltage is on CN801 pin 2, but the circuit diagram shows it to be on CN 801 pin 16 (see image)
I don’t know what this does to the troubleshooting procedure but it looks like it is similar but will have to rely on the correct power board circuit to check voltages from the power board and after that I’m not sure. With the TV in the “normal” setup check if you get the correct Standby voltage on pin 16 CN 801. You should also check the other voltages as shown in the image to make sure that they are OK as well, with the TV on perhaps.
