Dan, if the LED on the control board is blinking 3x you need to check the compressor. The board is doing what it’s supposed to do-stop voltage to compressor. Sometimes the relay on the side of the compressor is the problem. It’s not and expensive part to replace, so even if it doesn’t fix the problem your not out much money. If there is a little black box on the side of the compressor, remove it. DO THIS WITH UNIT UNPLUGGED. With the black cover removed you’ll see the relay plugged into the start and run windings of the compressor. Depending on your model,, there might be a disc thermostat also. The tstat should test as closed with little resistance. The relay is all you need to replace that could be the problem other than the compressor. If the relay doesn’t fix it then you need a compressor.
