I have an older Whirlpool dryer and some things about to give. If I try to start a second load within 2 mins of the last one ending I hear it trying to turn but it struggles instead and produces a burning smell. If I wait for it to cool off it usually starts normally, but I can tell it’s struggling more day by day. Seems like the start relay or something called the centrifugal switch. I would like to have a plan and maybe a part in hand before I go in for a closer look.

Hi, I’m wondering if the motor is overheating. Here is a link to all the parts and exploded diagrams of your dryer. Hopefully it is of some help. http://www.partselect.com/Models/LER7646

It was the motor and I had to replace the blower wheel as well because it breaks during the process. So quiet now, and quick to start. The motor didn’t seem repairable and needed to be replaced.
