I recently purchased MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Early 2013. I have owned a lot of MBP in the past but never a retina. I don’t know if it’s me but it seem like the brightness on the laptop is very dim. I reset the SMC, PRAM and also reinstalled the OS, nothing seem to make the screen any brighter. Before you ask, yes the brightness is at it’s max. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas on how would they fix this issues? A friend suggested to me that it could be screen that’s been replaced (refurbished display) I really would love to take advantage of the retina display experience. Can anyone please help me out here?

If you have the tools, you need a p5 screwdriver to take off the back. Unplug the battery and reseat the display cable. You most likely need a new screen but that wouldn’t hurt to try, since you already tried SMC and the other obvious troubleshooting steps

I had this issue with my 2009 macbook pro, to where it was super dim even at full brightness and it did end up being the display, like it had to be replaced. I would def re check all the connections to see if any came loose, and if that doesnt fix it then a screen replacement may be required
