Simple Question - Can anyone confirm that you can indeed take a 2011 15" MBP, remove the logic board, and insert a logic board from a 2012 15" MBP? If so, does it make any worthy difference (ie, performance, new features with OS, WiFi/BT) or is it simply too much work/effort?

You would have to cut the lvds connector up to make the existing lvds cable up. Not worth it. Wait for the GPU to die then you can do it.

Your current machine will run OS X 10.13.x. Here’s the official list of the supported machines: MacBook (late 2009 and later)iMac (late 2009 and later)MacBook Air (2010 and later)MacBook Pro (2010 and later)Mac Mini (2010 and later)Mac Pro (2010 and later)

If your system is working I would say it’s not worth the cost. Performance will be related to what you have now and what you get for a logic board. Review EveryMac’s listings to see the numbers on the most part it’s not that much a difference given the cost. As to features, there are none within the OS its self between these models. The only notable difference is the speed of the USB port from USB2 to USB3.
