My iPhone 7 rear camera lens cover glass was shattered, so I bought the $5 piece from ifixit to replace. Looked very straightforward from the video: completely remove old cover by shattering/etc from outside, scrape adhesive off, glue on new part. However, the new part appears to be different from in the help video. It is much thicker and appears to require removing more of the existing structure of the phone. How do I contact ifixit about the difference? Or should I try to make it work regardless? I assume the part I received requires opening the phone up, with more tools too. Frustrating. Any help appreciated.
I don’t know what you received exactly as replacement but my guess is that is a glass replacement mounted on a metal support which would’t fit anywhere in the iPhone. My advice would be to warm up gently the replacement part you got, push outside the glass with care and fit it as is into the iPhone camera slot you previously cleaned from glass shards left..it should retain its adhesive and fit as it should with a little warming up.
