I replaced my display with an iFixit kit, keeping my original home button. Once completed, the home button would not respond and I got a no touch id error. I then re-installed the old screen with the same home button and everything worked. Could this be a faulty replacement part?

You’ll need to transfer this part from the old screen to the replacement screen. Sounds like the interconnect ribbon cable for home button is no good: iPhone 6 LCD and Digitizer Replacement Refer to step 38 for the part in question.
